THE PROBLEM
Parcel delivery can demand too much coordination.
A simple delivery can involve repeated calls and directions, sharing a phone number or home location with a new rider each time, waiting for the rider, and trying to be available when they arrive. That level of coordination is a burden on customers and a major obstacle to automating last-mile delivery.
The deeper risk is what gets exposed in the process. Repeatedly sharing your phone number, home or work location and personal directions with different riders increases your exposure and creates opportunities for targeting or misuse of personal information.
For sellers and delivery operators, many individual deliveries can mean more coordination, missed or delayed deliveries, and higher delivery costs. They also create more vehicle journeys, contributing to congestion, fuel use and air pollution.
